Communities Alive needs your help! Volunteer today!

What is the role of a volunteer? Some schools need volunteers who will dedicate one hour a week to teach Alive to the World in a class. CA also needs volunteers who assist in the implementation of the programme in a school and in following up on needs and issues as they arise. They can also teach. These volunteers are called champions. At present CA needs many champions! Please consider volunteering to be a champion in a school near you.

Become a champion for Alive to the World

By Theresa Metzger, Dental Surgeon and champion at Nelson Street Girls

Principal Lisa Hinds-Lynch presents a pupil with her certificate

You could be a Champion preparing young people to make this world a better place in which to live. We need committed persons who are willing to be trained to effectively inculcate the virtues and values necessary for life. You will teach them for example about things like friendship so that they could choose their friends wisely as well as be better friends. Teamwork, another topic, is essential for a harmonious life.

We have it within our power to make a difference in the world. Remember that it really does take a village to raise a child. We could go into our Primary Schools and do our part.

So, if you have some time at your disposal and are willing to enrich the lives of children, then this Programme is for you. Become a Champion of the Alive to the World programme by contacting Tonia Gooding at contact@caettt.com or Elizabeth Inniss at 1 868 332 0040

I hope that you come aboard.

Help CA transition to face-to-face in 118 schools

CA has received excellent feedback from the 118 schools currently enrolled. In a survey of 43 teachers from different schools in 2021, 95% indicated that it was beneficial to them and their students. The children were able to identify and correctly name the values and virtues that were at stake in the stories they discussed. With consistent use of the programme, the students acquired the aptitude for applying the lessons to their own lives, identifying specific virtues that they practice well, those that they lack, and ones that they would like to work on more immediately with concrete strategies.

In the third term of 2022, schools began transitioning back to face to face classes. From September 2022, most schools and teachers will no longer be using online platforms for teaching and giving assignments. To adapt to this new circumstance, 236 sets of books need to be delivered. CA is seeking donations for the purchase of books to deliver in the 2022/23 academic year.

CA launches new online Learning Management System

Communities Alive’s Training Portal

During the Pandemic period from June to December 2020, Communities Alive trained over 60 teachers from 10 schools using tools provided by Google. Videos were created and links to these videos were sent out each week to teachers. The persons participating in the course were also invited to join one of several Google classrooms that were set up, where topics were discussed and short assignments given.

Drawing from this experience, we consulted with experts and have developed a new strategy, sometimes termed “flip the classroom”, which was launched in April. This new approach to learning places the onus on the student to learn on his or her own using sophisticated online tools incorporated in the LMS. Each person can learn at his or her own pace, though they will be encouraged to finish within a certain time frame. The role of the trainer is not to teach, but to address the individual questions that participants may have as they progress through the Learning Management System (LMS). This methodology allows for a much larger number of persons to be trained simultaneously, while making training more personalized at the same time.

15 primary schools were targeted for teacher training for the period April to September 2021. Over 200 primary school teachers from these schools registered and 90 completed the course. The feedback has been very positive. This program will be rolled out in stages to 118 Primary schools from January 2022.

Volunteer for Communities Alive!

As parents in today’s society, we are facing many challenges that previous generations never encountered. From the earliest years, the images and messages our children are receiving are often contra to our value systems; which makes it that much harder to really guide our children in the way we would like. Aware of these challenges, Communities Alive (CA) – a non-profit organization with a mission to promote moral education – would like to take this opportunity to introduce the Alive to the World Series (ATTW).

What is it? The Alive to the World Series is a program that teaches universal values applied to life, character and healthy family life. At present, it is in over 17 countries which have experienced very positive results, especially in Latin American schools using the program for more than 5 years

Why do we need it? All educators of children need to inspire good citizenship and pre-empt antisocial behaviours, with the understanding that the outcome of a child’s life is dependent not so much on avoiding certain ills as on developing a strong and rounded character, one built up on virtue. This program gives everyone the tools to make this happen.

What is it about? Alive to the World is an enticing programme which returns to the age-old method of conveying moral truths, by telling stories, just like Aesop did. Stories capture children’s interest, and bring to life particular situations which are memorable and can be discussed from many angles. Subjects are introduced at the appropriate age and stage of development, and messages are conveyed in a non-denominational fashion.

How does it work? Understanding that Virtues are ‘Caught more than Taught’, CA is offering the ability for parents and Teachers to be trained in the pedagogy behind the series, with the option of assisting with the teaching at schools. Fundamental concepts such as Ethics, Anthropology (the study of the Human person) and Psychology, as well as age related topics on Family, Values for Integration in Adolescence and Values for Affectivity and Sexuality will be part of the training.

Should you wish to be part of this wonderful opportunity to effect moral change in our nation, please see our Volunteer Registration form:
